Details

A milky white shaker with a matching lid, printed with the MOKU-AN mark. 2g of powder and 20ml of water go in, the lid goes on, and 20 seconds of shaking turns it into a smooth concentrate. The base is moulded with a raised fin that breaks the powder apart before it can clump, which is the job the tips of a chasen normally do. From there, top it up with 80ml of hot water to drink it straight, or 80ml of milk for a latte, or pour it over vanilla ice cream. It holds about 100ml, sits in one hand, and is the only thing you rinse afterwards. No bowl, no whisk, and none of the tea ceremony to learn first.

How to use

Pour in 20ml of water, add 2g of matcha, put the lid on and shake it up and down for 20 seconds. What comes out is a concentrate, so top it up with 80ml of hot water to drink it straight, or 80ml of milk for a latte. It also pours well over vanilla ice cream.

How it works

The base is moulded with a raised fin, and at shaking speed that fin does the job the tips of a chasen would, breaking the powder apart before it can clump. The body is small enough to drive from the wrist, which is why 20 seconds is enough. No bowl, no whisk, and none of the tea ceremony to learn first.

Care

Rinse it with warm water straight after use and dry the bottle, lid and seal separately. Wash it by hand rather than in the dishwasher, and keep the water under 80°C so the body holds its shape.

FAQ

How do I use it?

Pour in 20ml of water, add 2g of matcha, put the lid on and shake for 20 seconds. That gives you a concentrate. Top it up with 80ml of hot water to drink it straight, or 80ml of milk for a latte. The shaker is the only thing you rinse.

Does it really come out smooth?

The base is moulded with a raised fin, and at shaking speed it breaks the powder apart the way the tips of a whisk would. 20 seconds is enough to leave it without clumps.

Can I use hot water in the shaker?

Yes, as long as it stays under 80°C. Water or hot water below 80°C both work; cold with ice makes the everyday cup.

How big is it?

Palm-size, about 100ml, light enough to shake from the wrist. One serving, hot or cold, on the way out.

How do I clean it?

Rinse it with warm water straight after use and dry the bottle, lid and seal separately. Wash it by hand rather than in the dishwasher, and keep the water under 80°C.
